Hey Erica,
These are great tips, and those that take just one of them and put them into action will never truly “pay” for transcripts again. The key to your tips is becoming profitable even before your call or event happens.
As for who to turn to for transcripts, there are a lot of options. I’ve worked with individuals on Craigslist, CastingWords, “friends of a friend”, Twitter referrals, etc. As luck would have it, I found you and The Small Business Transcriptionist through a tweet. Since switching to your company for transcripts I get great service, well-formatted transcripts, and fast turn around for affordable rates.
Thanks for reminding your audience about these tips, and for making the choice simple for getting transcripts done.

Admire your writing! In some ways you have the ability to include some touches to make it even better.

These tips are AWESOME and should be definitely be required reading for anyone planning a teleseminar event. Having a template prepped in advance is often overlooked in the teleseminar prep checklist and I really like the idea of offering the three different packages, audio only, transcripts only, and all together. That’s a great idea and it gives the customer a chance to fit their budget too.

I agree 110%! Why wouldn’t you want transcripts? Everyone consumes their information differently and who wouldn’t want to reach as many target customers as possible.
my question is about the kitty. have had scottish fold cats for 22 years and am looking for another one to replace the last..was dr. henne’s cattery clean and were the cats all healthy looking..and how did you pick her? thanks.

Hi Jeri,
Suzanne is an amazing vet and cattery owner. Her location was a little difficult to find but the office was clean and welcoming. All of the kittens were friendly and well-socialized. Suzanne has been great even when I’ve emailed her recently asking questions.
Pudding is one of the best cats I have ever seen. Honestly she has such a great personality, it’s almost like she’s not a kitten at all but like a second child.
We choose Purrfect Folds because they had the healthiest looking kittens and the best testimonials of all the catteries we looked at. I have owned Persian cats for years, and of all the breeders I have worked with, I felt the most prepared for a new kitten when I left with Pudding. She had a whole kit ready for us. I have always been weary of having a kitten shipped but after seeing the ones Suzanne was preparing I’m sure I’ll let her ship our next one.
If you want to see more pictures of Pudding and how she is turning out, you can check out her Facebook album here. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2410006&id=7003582&l=3df9c1fa1a
Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions. Purrfect Folds gets a big thumbs up from us.
Erica
You might haven’t intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that lots of people are in. The sense of wanting to assist, but not knowing how or where, is something lots of us are going via.
This is an awesome review of Transcription Crash Course – I was so excited when I read it!
I’m making a note of your pedal recommendation, because people do ask me about them once they’ve gotten started and I can never suggest one since I don’t use one.Thank you so much for the great and thorough review.

You’ve scored a home run with this one, Erica!
I finally ordered a USB microphone after struggling (forever!) to record with a mic that came with my web cam. Talk about crummy results — everything sounded scratchy and cheesy and horrible! I just learned very recently that bypassing your computer’s sound card is a good idea. Who knew?! I’m definitely not a techie.
Really great information,

Melanie,
I totally agree. I have two laptops with built in microphones and the sound quality is so crappy. It might be ok for a quick call to a family member but I would definitely not want to record one of my client calls that way.
You are correct on by passing the sound card. You can get feedback and even a squelch from it. I’m sure the USB microphone will make your life much easier.
Thanks for your comments.

Erica, thanks for your response.
I was not only getting “feedback and squelch” from that cheesy mic — I was getting squeaks, crackles, and screeches!
Looking forward to reading more from you,
Melanie
Thanks, Erica. This was one of the best notes you put out. I am currently in the market for a new recorder. I had bought a very expensive one that I had some trouble with and returned that. Then I’ve been using a plantronics headset which works well. My trouble is finding one that can use a pop filter to decrease the amount of pops and “s” sounds. I may try the condenser mic you list up here and hope it goes with the software I have.

Deirdre,
I do notice an occasional pop with my Plantronics headset. That’s exactly why I like the microphones for better quality when I’m not on a phone call.
I like the Audio Technica. It was suggested to me originally by Lon Naylor at LearnCamtasia.com. It’s quite easy to store and travel with and you can’t beat the quality for the price. I’d almost be certain it would work with your software as it’s a pretty commonly used brand.
I’d love to hear your results when you get a new one!

Erica,
This is fabulous information – awesome list post! I’ve been searching for information like this – there is so much available, it’s hard to know what’s good and what’s not. Thank you for narrowing the playing field and giving recommendations that make sense.

Thanks for the great feedback. So glad something useful could come from all my trial and error (and all this recording equipment around here!)

I have been shopping around for this so your timing (or mine)
is perfect!
Thanks for sharing.
This is a great post, Erica. I myself am new at the whole “recording myself” thing and I thought the idea of driving around with a voice recorder was fab. Also, I appreciate your reviews of the products and recommendations – I’m going to get that little snowball thing I think. Thanks again!
